Environmental Research Foundation (ERF)
History
The Environmental Research Foundation (ERF) was created in 2021 as a Non-Profit, non-governmental, research-oriented organisation to address the impact of anthropogenic and natural events on the environment and how this impact affects humans and animals. This organisation has opened doors to friends and lovers of the environment, who believe collaboration is vital to finding sustainable solutions to the world’s most pressing environmental problems.
Mission
To contribute through research to the understanding of the mechanisms driving human, animal and environmental health, initiating remedial actions in affected sectors while protecting still pristine ones
Vision
A healthy environment for sustainable human and animal health today and tomorrow.
Objectives
- To develop a research platform where One Health research can be carried out
- To develop skills for field and laboratory work amongst its members and emerging scientist
- To train students in South Africa and beyond on environmental issues as they relate to human and animal health – One Health
- To develop an aptitude for intervention research on environmental issues combining life, social, behavioural, economic, clinical and biological sciences
- To promote collaboration between national and international research institutions/ non-governmental organisations exercising in the One Health triad – human/animal/environment.
